I have just finished and posted another Pif Gadget translation, posted over at the Planet Sagar Yahoo group. Although a member over there, Realdemona, had already posted scans for the story, I have posted alternate scans as well.
Some notes/reflections on the story (warning there will be spoilers for it!)
* I really like the way that these Pif Gadget comics depict the Trobbits as having an entire civilisation living with the branches of the Sagar Tree/the Trobbit Forest. It helps that Gaty draws some great background Trobbits - check out the female Trobbit sweeping on the first page.
* Does anyone else see a resemblance between Slime, the titular mud monster, and Yog from the He-Man episode 'Song of Celice'?
* Speaking of Slime... that part of the plot goes nowhere. He/it doesn't seem to be in the next story, either. I guess there's just a tentacle-monster living near the Sagar Tree now...
* Amber also appears here as a villain, and differently coloured to her TV appearance.

Have posted another translation over at the Planet Sagar Yahoo group, this time for issue 860's story 'The Magic Flute'.
Some notes/reflections/spoilers on this one...
* The continuity of these Pif Gadget comics is interesting, with quite a few deviations from the Filmation cartoon. The Trobbit civilisation, the origin of Blackstar's 'ionic sword'... and Amber as a villainess who is seduced to the light side by Blackstar...
* Literally! Klone's grand plan is to kidnap Amber and have Blackstar put the moves on her! I'd have loved to have seen Filmation do that!
* This also ties into the Mara/Blackstar/Klone love triangle which has been a background element of the last few stories.

Another translation up over at the Planet Sagar yahoo group - this time for issue 866 - the Golden Conch * This is part 1 of a 3 part story - although it isn't quite as epic as it sounds, as part 1 is 10 pages long while parts 2 and 3 are both only 5 pages each - so it's more like a 2 part story, in terms of page numbers * It does, however, deal with the history of the Trobbit's some what, although it really doesn't end up going into much depth. If you look ahead in the scans that are posted, you can tell the major revelations without even having to read the script...

The second part in the three part Pif Gadget epic has been translated and posted in the files section... There really isn't much to say about this part, though - coming as it does in the middle, it really ends up just being one big fight scene that doesn't reveal anything new... but the stage is set for a dramatic showdown with Overlord next issue, so that's something.
* This was also the second story that I translated (it's been done for awhile, I was just waiting till I had the other parts before posting it) so it is pretty rough - I really should have tried to clean it up a bit more, but the translation is perfectly serviceable.
* Something interesting to note - the Lavaloc has a much more alligator/crocidile look than it does in the cartoon - not only in the design of its head, but also in the colour; instead of being red like you would expect, its coloured green!

The final part of the three part Pif Gadget 'epic' storyline is now translated and up in the files section over at Planet Sagar!
* Unfortunately, for such a 'big' story there isn't much to say about this issue, since it continues the fight scene from the previous issue...
* it does, however, have the second Overlord/Blackstar fight in the comics - although it doesn't last very long, what with Overlord being struck by lightning and all. Ah well.
* The final revelation about the origin of the Trobbits is also just kind of dropped in at the end, without any exploration of what it means for the mythology. They're the descendants of alien settlers... and?
* That said, there is almost a storyline hidden in the details of the various Pif Gadget stories... Blackstar's sword comes from his spaceship, Ovd has an identical sword but its origin is never explained... he also doesn't want the Trobbits to find the truth of their origin... they're alien settlers who came in spaceships... hmmmmm...

Another translation file added - this time for the Pif Gadget games section from issue 866, which presented the games alongside a small Blackstar story. * It starts with Blackstar telling the Trobbits about Earth, and about how the Earth orbits the Sun and the moon orbits the Earth, etc etc, so that the Trobbits remark on how day follows night... er, yeah, surely that shouldn't be too exciting for them, since it does the same thing on Sagar (number of moons potentially not withstanding). * The winged monster from the main story of this issue (The Golden Conch) makes a return, this time with a funky looking spear instead of a trident. * I didn't bother translating the instructions for game 6 on the last page, since it was part of an add for Smarties and not really Blackstar related. Given the nature of the other games, I'm sure it isn't much of challenge anyway... * Speaking of which, I didn't bother translating the answers either so you'll have to work them out for yourself

Just to show that I am still working on these translations, here is the first page of the next (and final) Pif Gadget Blackstar story - the Territory of Vampires. Hopefully now that I have got myself started it won't take long to get the rest translated.
Page One
Panel One Vizier: I have a treaty of alliance with the Vampire Men. They will be able to steal in the lowlands...
Panel Two Vizier: And in exchange, they will spy on the movements of Blackstar and the Trobbits on our behalf!
Overlord: Let them prove themselves before I sign...
Panel Three Vizier: Very well, Master! I am sure they will, the Vampire Men are very organised.
Panel Four Caption: Two days later, Balkar, Carpo, Burble and Gossamer were repairing a dam...
Burble: This chute makes a racket...
Carpo: What did you say?
Gossamer: !
Panel Five Gossamer: Alert!

Here is the second page:
Page Two
Panel One Caption: The vampire patrol swooped on the Trobbits.
Balkar: The devils of the night...
Carpo: Help! They're taking us!
Panel Two Gossamer (thinking): Traditionally the Vampire Men have only pirated at night... Gossamer: It is a coup of the Overlord...
Caption: Gossamer had escaped the monsters...
Panel Three The Golden Conch: Trobbits often had to fight the vampires of the caves...
Gossamer: The vampires have kidnapped my brothers...
Panel Four Klone: If the Vampire Men have dared to attack in broad daylight then they must have an agreement with the Overlord.
Panel Five Mara: Vampires are creatures of the night... they live in the caves of the great rift of Porphyre... In the west of Sagar...
Panel Six Blackstar: We have no time to lose. We must attack the vampires before they deliver the Trobbits to the Overlord...
* It's interesting to see the Golden Conch again as a continuity nod to the previous story, and it even hints at a potential role for it should these stories have continued - as a convenient source of exposition... however it is a little too convenient here, just happening to be talking about Vampire Men as they show up...
* Why exactly does the Overlord need an agreement with the Vampire Men now, anyway, when Gargo and his Vampire Men were working for the Overlord in the previous story? Maybe the King of the Vampire Men leads a different group/tribe or something?
* the great rift of Porphyre I left deliberately 'babelfish-esque' in its translation because I thought it sounded like the sort of name you expect places to have in a fantasy like this, although it is really just describing the place as a porphyritic rock crevasse.

The third page...
Page Three
Panel Two Blackstar: I know the weaknesses of the species. There are also Vampires on Earth. I have a plan to offer you...
Panel Three Blackstar: You, Mara, you will emit ultrasounds, to scramble the natural radars which make it possible for the Vampires to orientate themselves. Blackstar: And you, Klone, who can take on the appearance of any living animal, you will turn into a Vampire...
Klone: A Vampire?
Panel Four Caption: Warlock flew Westward at high speed. At midday, Blackstar and his companions saw in the fantastic landscape the great rift of Porphyre...
Panel Five Blackstar: We will stop on the plateau. A mile from the crevice of the Vampires...
* It sounds like Blackstar is ready to get out the stakes and holy water when he mentions knowing about Vampires from Earth, but his idea to get Mara to emit ultrasounds makes it seem like he is actually talking about Vampire bats rather than mythological Vampires.

Page Four
Panel Two Caption: Balkar, Carpo and Burble were prisoners...
Balkar: Hanging like fruits to dry!
Burble: Like cabbages to dry!
Carpo: Like fish in a net!
Panel Three Balkar: I can see in the thoughts of the chief of this horde. He must deliver us to the Overlord...
Panel Four Balkar: Gossamer will alert Blackstar!
Burble: Huuumph! Blackstar cannot do much...
Panel Five Caption: Klone, in the guise of a Vampire Man, brushed against the cage...
Panel Six Klone (as a Vampire Man): Hope... it is I Klone... hope and patience!

Page Five
Panel One Caption: Klone returned to Blackstar and Mara.
Panel Three Klone: The Trobbits are in the centre of the cave... I will guide you...
Panel Four Caption: And the dawn came, on the great rift...
Blackstar: My old Warlock, you must let loose the terrible roar of the dragon.
Panel Five Blackstar: Mara, you must bombard the hordes with ultra-sounds. And you will create a great traffic jam...
Panel Six Blackstar: Here we go! Wake the Vampires, Warlock!
Panel Seven Warlock: Graaawwl!
Caption: The flying dragon rumbled like a volcano...
Panel Eight Caption: Klone took the form of a falcon...
Panel Nine Klone: Kreekk

Page Six
Panel One Caption: Meanwhile, in the Ice Palace
Vizier: The Vampires have struck, Master! They have captured the King of the Trobbits...
Panel Two Vizier: Today, Balkar is in your hands... Balkar will be your hostage, thus forcing the Trobbits to give you Blackstar...
Panel Three Overlord: And why not let the Vampires deliver Blackstar to us. The alliance has this price...
Panel Four Caption: The Master of Evil was unaware that Blackstar had taken the offensive... and that the battle was joined in Western Sagar... Caption: The marvellous sword had opened the way for a man of Earth to become the hero of Sagar...
* not much to mention about this page as it is pretty simple stuff - it is interesting to see the Vizier affording Balkar a bit of respect as the King of the Trobbits by acknowledging how important a hostage he is.

Page Seven
Panel One Caption: Mara, the sorceress with strange powers, let loose waves of ultra-sounds...
Panel Two Caption: And these beams swept through the ranks of the creatures of the night, with blind eyes, which moved only thanks to their radar ears...
Panel Three Caption: The Vampires, lost and without guidance, jostled and collided...
Panel Four Caption: Mara created a terrible mess...
Panel Five Mara (thinking): What did Blackstar mean by ‘traffic jam’? Probably an Earth expression...
Panel Six Caption: With his powerful wings Warlock scattered clusters of Vampires...
Caption: Guided by Klone-Falcon, the flying dragon struck towards the central cave, the heart of the canyon of Vampires...
* Mara strikes a pretty sexy pose just to shoot ultra sound eye beams at the Vampire Men

Page Eight
Panel One Blackstar: Go to hell, monsters of death!
Panel Two Caption: The sword flashed in the dark mass of Vampires, like with the fire of the sun...
Panel Three Burble: By the Sagar Tree, it seems that something is happening! But what?
Carpo: They shake about like branches in the wind! But why?
Panel Four Balkar: With what and why we do not get things done... Blackstar attacks of course!
Caption: The Trobbits had blind faith in the man of the Earth, but they knew how powerful the flight of the Vampires was! And how destructive!
Panel Five Caption: In the Ice Palace, Overlord and his familiars were triumphant...
Vizier: No living being has ever returned from the Great Rift of Porphyre...
Panel Six Overlord: Then bring the liquor of Sagar! We will drink deeply to the death of Blackstar!
* Blackstar is a bad a**!
* The Trobbits sure do love similes...
* Overlord gets his drink on... but seriously, the 'liquor of Sagar'? That's like going to a pub and asking for 'the beer of Earth!' Does he have the liquor of other planets in his liquor cabinet as well?

Page Nine
Panel One Blackstar: Balkar, Carpo, Burble! Are you there?
Caption: The shadows were dense that were cast by the light...
Panel Two Caption: The flying dragon spat into the vault a jet of fire...
Panel Four Blackstar: One after another! Hop!
Carpo: Faith of Trobbit!
Panel Five Caption: Balkar, Carpo and Burble were amazed to find themselves on the back of Warlock. Pressed against each other like eggs in a nest.
Panel Six Balkar: Blackstar, on behalf of us all, thank you!
Panel Seven Blackstar: Hang on! Because there is the return!
