Blackstar's cold feelings could also be a selfprotective machanism he is using in order to not attach to Sagar. Maybe deep in his mind he thinks this moment in his life would only be for a time and not for life, that in anytime someone can come for him ( Like in the case of Katana) and take him away from this people. Mike, John is an astronaut. He must have spent his last years on Earth to train himself, either psychologically and physically. We can't estabilish what procedures he underwent to become technically perfect - keep in mind he also belonged to a future timeline segment, where military services must be different from ours. That would explains his cold attitude and his highly-refined, ruthless self-defense mechanisms. Anyway, I don't really think he still hopes to return back to Earth after all this time. The 'Katana' incident teached him that YOU can't plan anything, because life is unpredictable, and you have to take everything as it comes: easy. I think he considers Sagar as his new, definitive home, and he's glad to be helpful.

Well in Spacewrecked he didn't have too much choice did he? It came to two things
1: Let Katana leave unharmed while he distracts Overlord in battle ( which was what actually happened) or 2: Get in the ship with Katana and let Overlord blow them to pieces in mid air.
So I beleive he didn't have time to think about Sagar in that particualr moment. He was thinking on Katans well being.
Once he took the decision he didn't have another choice. So there might be some homesick feelings from Blackstar.

Hmm, like I mentioned to Titian once before, I think what would have been good to see in a sequel to Spacewrecked would have been for John to actually make a proper choice between going back to earth or remaining on Sagar... with him choosing to remain on sagar, obviously

Too bad we never got a second season. I wish Blackstar came back.

I love the Shipwrecked episode to be placed in the middle of the series the way it is, because I like to think Blackstar will stay on Sagar forever. Trapped.
Since the episode is not the last one, we can assume Katana never detected (again) the interdimensional path which brought her to the parallel universe of Sagar in the very first place. Given the fact the Commander at the end wasn't too keen to the idea John Blackstar could be alive and existing in a parallel universe beyond a black hole of some sort.

Just re-reading this thread again and realized noone had answered Whitedwarf's question up at the beginning of the thread about what the first episode of the series is. If you go by broadcast order, it was "City of the Ancient Ones" which is a pretty good episode to start with. Blackstar mentions that he's still not used to his super strength and uses it to smash a sandstone dome. Though I'd argue "Search for the Starsword" makes a better one though it was the 2nd story broadcast.
"Search for the Starsword" makes a great first episode because it focuses on the Overlord's obsession with getting the Starsword from Blackstar. The show opens with Blackstar, Mara & Klone toasting their rebellion and John's importance in it. Blackstar shows off his super strength by chucking boulders at Lava Locs, Mara, Klone and each of the Trobbits get a chance to show off their abilities and personalities. The subservience of the Lava Locs shows off the power Overlord holds over his minions; they actually built a temple and worship him! On top of it all, the Overlord almost manages to get his hands of the Starsword to join it with the Powersword to create the PowerStar. Almost.
"City of the Ancient Ones" makes a better 2nd episode because it reinforces what we see in "Search for the Starsword" and gives Overlord's closest minion, Vizir more to do, showing just how powerful he is. It also introduces the lost city of the Ancients which gives support to the words of the opening theme that Sagar is in an ancient, alien universe. It also informs us that Mara herself is over a hundred years old (Amber was Mara's ally & friend "centuries ago").
I think "Spacewrecked" works best of all as a season ender. Blackstar does some stunts with the Starsword we have never seen him do before or since (it was episode 6 of 13 in the original broadcast order) like using it to stop himself and Katana from falling to their deaths and hover around. Overlord finally gets his hands on it and manages to form the PowerStar for a brief moment, which he'd never managed before (except for the one time Mara tricked him with her magic into thinking she was handing over the Starsword). It's also a great cliff hanger to end the series on. Will Katana be back with a fleet of Earth ships to "rescue" John from Sagar or will her commanding officer put her on trial for insubordination? Will John abandon his growing love for Mara to return to his old flame Katana or has he been changed too much by his experiences on Sagar and decide to break things off with Katana to stay with his alien beloved? Find out next season...!

Hmmmmm, you have raised an interesting point Metaldragon - in another thread I just mentioned that Search for the Starsword was the second episode produced but ment to be the first episode to air, which was why it was written with an 'introduction' section consisting of the 'gee Blackstar is great' picnic scene (BTW, nice choice of location guys ) and Overlord giving a melodramatic speech about the Powerstar (granted, not an uncommon occurence)... But checking the wikipedia article (my copy of the DVD is in a box at the moment) it has a rather contradictory account - it lists Search for the Starsword as episode 1 and with an airdate of 19th of September 1981 and notes that although City of the Ancient Ones was produced first, it was ment to be second... but then it lists City of the Ancient Ones with a airdate of 12th of September 1981... I know wikipedia isn't the most reliable of sources, but I am sure it has been established that although City of the Ancient Ones was produced first, Search for the Starsword was still made with the intention of going to air first. The episode list on IMDB reverses those airdates so that Search for the Starsword is on 12th Sep 1981 though.

Wow, good to see some action here again! I think John would not leave Sagar so easily... The fight against the cruel Overlord will go on for ever!

I couldn't agree more.
I don't agree about "Spacewrecked", I hate cliffhangers if they don't find their natural conclusion on following seasons. I would place "Spacewrecked" in the middle of the series.
What about the "levitation" power of the Starsword? Can you guy please tell me more about it?
