assuming everyone here has seen tree of evil. i wanna talk this one out. the show pretty much leaves overlord at the bus station from the get go. yet its mentioned that it was he who planted the great tree of evil. now if you had a seed or a tree that could body snatch people wouldnt you want to be there for all the action. and how did it body snatch the trobbits without them knowing? its stated by the woodsprite that the tree traps you in a pod and replicates an evil version of its prey. (invasion of the body snatchers) and for that matter how did it doppleganger the sagar tree? and how the hell did no one notice this tree with evil trobbits until now just out of the blue. and since when does john and klone not know thier way around. i think i would know if my house was suddenly all twisted and dark. and my girl didnt speak she just motioned for me to follow. id be like "ummm i'll be back" and get the hell out of dodge. well id like to here some input from the rest of you on this. so hit me back.

These are all very legit questions, let me try to find a decent answer.
1- Overlord is a manipulator. He does the raid, throws a new game into the middle, then loves to see what will happen from his shadowy and obscure place. This is his personal concept of 'having fun'. He's a villain... no, no, wait a moment, he is the villain.
2- I think that the TREE OF EVIL was surrounded by a very powerful spell which managed to "cover" the simulation even further than its identical facade and erase the feeling of suspicion into any viewers. Keep in mind that Sagar's magic is not our magic. It's a different universe, with a different magic counterpart.
3- Blackstar: I think he takes anything with a grain of salt, but he also takes anything the way it comes. Do not forget he's stuck on an alien planet. As far as Klone is concerned, I think he's too naive as person to be bothered by details of such type.
Hope it helps! I love the episode...

well this point blackstar has been on sagar for god knows how long. he should notice an evil tree growing up in the yard. he is the protector . overlord is such a fiend for the sword it doesnt make sense for him to risk the sword being possessed by an evil body snatched blackstar. and the fact that overlord was right behind them should or would have followed them especially if they were near his evil tree. and this doesnt explain the pod trobbits. i find this to be one of the weakest episodes and at the same time one of the better plot elements of the series. of course i can rationalize anything and debate my own quams but that would be fun. also i like hearing others perspectives on these holes as well

Okay Galaxy Warrior,
1- Saying that Overlord is interested in the Starsword is an euphemism (and a good one). But he also was interested in chaos and distruction. He "threw" the seed of evil in the "middle", just to see what would have happened. And I'm pretty sure that he owns enough power to tame the Evil Blackstar or any other product of the Tree of Evil.
2- Blackstar is the protector, but also an alien. So I don't see any plothole here. He, the people, everyone just didn't notice this 'Tree of Evil'. Maybe it's part of the magic "surrounding" and substaining the Tree of Evil itself. Does it sound better as explanation?
3- Pod Trobbits? Again, see point #2.

but now think about what you said. if overlord could defeat the pod blackstar. then how would he expect the pod blackstar to defeat john seeing as how john beats him everytime. the whole just because he's evil angle is weak. any actions even evil ones need motovation.

Um, Klone did notice something was wrong when they arrived. He's a lot smarter than he appears to be.

The prompting motivation is that Overlord - in his endless arrogance - thinks to be walking on the "right path" this time. He truly supposes that an evil replica of Blackstar could work against Blackstar himself. Of course, he's wrong! Arrogance is the key word.

Maybe there is a sub-serviance to Overlord built into the pod-people?

Maybe there is a sub-serviance to Overlord built into the pod-people? Not far from the truth.

Um, Klone did notice something was wrong when they arrived. He's a lot smarter than he appears to be. Zim, I know that. He's smart enough. But he's also "cold" and somehow "cut apart" from the events.

Could you explain that? I don't quite understand what you mean. He says quite clearly that something isn't right. Sometimes I think maybe you want Blackstar to be smarter or better than the writers made him. I watched this episode the other day, and he really doesn't figure it out as fast as Klone.

No, no, Blackstar is just a human like you and me, and he can do wrong, of course.
I was referring to tha fact that Klone usually appears "cold" and a little bit "emotionally detached" in each episode, that's all. I know that he got a clue faster than how John did. Indeed, I wasn't referring to the specific episode which we're discussing.

Maybe in his arrogance he tought Blackstar would never find the only weakness of the double that was the heart of the tree. Maybe Overlord's plan was to clone and evil Blackstar, let him destroy the real one in hand to hand combat and once the clone steals the Starsword he will destroy the tree and by doing so the clones will selfdestruct and he wouldn't even have to fight any of them. I think it was a pretty decent plan. The thing is Overlord underestimaded Blackstar's intelligence. He was sure Blackstar wasn't going to be able to find the doppleganger's weakness which was the tree's heart .

I'd expect the Trobbits would know, but it seems to be rather esoteric knowledge for somebody like Blackstar to have.

... as he bears a special affinity with the Starsword, probably he also got a "bloodhound-like nose" for such mystical issues. Extrapolation, deduction, wit, intelligence and... he just can "sense" what's going on.
