How does that work, precisely? I don't truly remember if Blackstar and Overlord ever fought with the swords (fencing), and if the swords can touch each other without "automatically" fusing into the Powerstar. I guess you must connect the flat sides of the swords in order to achieve the Powerstar. Wondering how they do fuse into one... is it a molecular bond? Of course, some of the answers lie in the "Spacewrecked" episode.

Oh yes sir, Blackstar and Overlord have crossed swords in at least two episodes! Nothing happened though. Hell broke loose only when Overlord united the swords in the unique way indicated in the episode "spacewrecked"!

Yep, that's it. And Filmation's artists did an excellent job depicting the power of the powerstar.

I always liked how the Star Sword and Power Sword actually look like they are just two halves of a larger item - they are very funky looking designs for just a couple of swords, but they look very effective as two strange shaped fragments of an item that were re-purposed as swords.

Yeah, that's the key to understand the Starsword and the Powersword's visual pattern. They were not meant to be swords in the very first place - they were halves. Over time, people perceived them as swords and now you can use them that way. Filmation designers just showed their genius one more time. That's why I love this series. It's very clever and ahead of its time.

It' so sad we didn't get another season man! Maybe they could have given us a clue about the origins of the powerstar...

Another season would have been great to see, even if there wasn't any hints about the origin of the Power Star

Of course, some of the answers lie in the "Spacewrecked" episode. "Spacewrecked" made it pretty clear they are combined by slapping the flat sides together. And remember that they apparently take effort/concentration to stay together -- when the ship exhaust knocked the Powerstar out of the Overlord's grasp it first landed on the floor as the Powerstar and then after a second or two spontaneously separated into the Powersword and the Starsword.

Very nice insight, indeed.
