I'm surprised this doesn't have a thread already, given the obvious similarities to Blackstar - Filmations Flash Gordon, the series and the movie, The Greatest Adventure of All. Irecently purchased the series on DVD, having not seen it since I was a kid. I always remembered enjoying it when I was younger, and I'm happy to say that the series still holds up very well to this day, though of course, I'm predisposed towards liking Filmation cartoons in general Does nayone else have this series on DVD? Has anyone else watched the movie version, the Greatest Adventiure of All?

I haven't watched the series since I was a kid too. And to be honest I've never heard of this movie version... Then again, I was never into Flash Gordon much, as it was too sci-fi for me, I always liked sword and sorcery more, that's why I love blackstar (and motu). Nevertheless, I'm gonna watch the movie version from a nostalgic point of view.

The movie version is on Youtube - personally, I find that the first 15 or so minutes of it are essential viewing before watching episode 1 of the series as it depicts Flash, Dale and Zarkov leaving Earth - I find that episode 1 of the series starts out a little too 'dropped in on the action', not giving you enough of a sense of context in which to frame whats happening. The movie also looks great, and the series cribs from it mercilessly lol
