Wondering if it holds up well... haven't watched it yet.
We know all we can get is DVD format, not proper HD. Does it look good/great on modern HD televisions? After all, we're talking about an animated series. Maybe it looks good/great anyway, no matter what.
Have you tested that? If so, please let me/us know.

Yea... it's decent all right. A guy on the blu-ray.com forum claimed that the Blackstar (BCI Eclipse) DVD featured frame blending and block noise? Do you confirm it? |

I don't even know what that means... All I know is I can watch the cartoon with my 4 year old son and have fun, with no issues at all.

"I'm pretty sure. It was most visible when going frame-by-frame and the reason I ditched many of my BCI editions (aside from a few "best of" packs).
BCI failed to slow the 25fps PAL masters back to film before converting them to NTSC. In addition to frame-blending, I think the audio pitch was also higher than the original broadcasts.
The block noise is mostly visible when there are bright flashes, such as during the opening titles of "Masters" and "Blackstar". I don't recall seeing it on the UK DVDs I sampled (for "Blackstar"), but I could be mistaken.
It's sad Hallmark destroyed the tapes, but their destruction is not the reason we're stuck with PAL speed-up. The reason the BCI DVDs suffer from PAL speed-up and frame-blending is because BCI failed to properly convert those PAL digital masters back to NTSC. I know because I've done it before with my own custom DVD projects.
BCI needed to slow those digital masters from 25fps to 23.976fps, add a pulldown to make them 29.97fps, and redigitize. Not doing so before redigitizing preserved the speed-up and caused the frame-blending."
